The Surry Chair Company was purchased and moved to Hickory, North Carolina in 1911 and became the Hickory Chair Company. It was the first residential upholstery manufacturer based in Hickory.
In 1941 the company received the rights to reproduce the James River Collection of furniture based on the antiques found in the James River area of Virginia. Today there are collections from designers Mariette Himes Gomez, Alexa Hampton, Mark Hampton and Thomas O’Brien, along with a breadth of selections that range from 18th Century mahogany reproductions, French, Italian, and Arts & Crafts to casual furnishings. This along with a wide selection of upholstered furniture pieces (with excellent ship times) keeps Hickory Chair at the forefront of quality, timeless designs.
